Restoration - Bridges

A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is a dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants. There are different types of bridges, depending on how they are fabricated and the way they are anchored to the adjacent teeth. Conventional or “traditional” bridges are made using an indirect method. Bridges are usually made of porcelain or gold fused to metal. Conventional bridges consist of two crowns that go over the anchoring teeth and are attached to pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap between one or more missing teeth.

REASONS FOR A FIXED BRIDGE?

  • Fill space of missing teeth
  • Prevent other teeth from drifting out of position
  • Restore speach and chewing ability
  • Maintain facial shape and smile

Dental bridges last for many years, however sometimes they need to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal use.
